Summer Soirée at the Buxton Pump Room

On a soft summer evening the Club held its first ever evening event, in the beautifully refurbished Buxton Pump Room.

This heritage building was used for many decades as a place where Edwardian ladies and gentlemen “took the waters” in elegant surroundings with potted palms and a string quartet. But it has been boarded up for years till the Heritage Lottery Fund and local councils found the funds to restore it, as part of the massive restoration by the Trevor Osborne Group of Buxton Crescent. A five star spa hotel will open there in 2019, but meanwhile the Pump Room will start welcoming guests and music again.

For us, musical interludes were provided by the locally based Tideswell Make Voice Choir with a selection including Hallelujah from Leonard Cohen and Nothing Like A Dame – their Director is a woman, Alison Bletcher. Strawberries and fizz went down a treat. Food came from Rems of Chapel en le Frith, real ale from Howard Town Brewery and Vogue Party Planning of Glossop were in charge.

A great evening, thanks to everyone!!
